Who We Are
Gideon Boxing Gym is a nonprofit youth development organization that uses boxing as a tool to build character. Our mission is to instill integrity, courage, and discipline through physical fitness, alternative mentorship, and life coaching.
Named after the biblical warrior who led with courage against impossible odds, this gym was built on the belief that every kid in Saginaw deserves a place to grow. We give young people the opportunity to learn, compete, and express themselves in a healthy and structured environment.
The coaches at Gideon are not just coaches. They are neighbors, mentors, and believers. They have given this community everything they have, and then some. Gideon exists because the community showed up, and our coaches refuse to let them down.

The Timeline
During COVID, Coach Joe opened his garage and started training youth. No funding, no fanfare. Just a belief that kids in Saginaw deserved better.
Gideon athletes step into the ring for the first time. The nonprofit model takes shape, with boxing as the vehicle for youth development and mentorship.
The gym moves to 1209 Hancock St. Programming expands, fight events begin, and the community rallies around a cause that is bigger than the sport.
24 fights a year. Quarterly events. Life coaching and mentorship woven into every session. Gideon is not just a gym. It is a lifeline.
Why Gideon
Gideon is powered by the community, for the community. Our coaches give this gym everything they have, their time, their knowledge, and their heart, because they truly believe in what it stands for.
Boxing is the tool, not the destination. Every class is an opportunity for young people to learn discipline, build confidence, and express themselves in a healthy, structured environment.
Our coaches at Gideon lead with integrity and purpose. Their approach goes beyond technique. They mentor, coach life skills, and invest personally in every athlete who walks through the door.
Gideon fighters compete in roughly two external bouts per month, approximately 24 fights a year. The gym also hosts quarterly boxing events, bringing the community together around the sport.
Our Team
This gym isn't just Coach Joe. Our fighters train under a staff of experienced, dedicated coaches.

Founder & Head Coach
Coach Joe built this gym from the ground up. He doesn't just teach boxing - he builds fighters, mentors young men and women, and invests his heart into every soul that steps through the ropes. When you train with Joe, you're not just learning to throw hands. You're joining a family.

Boxing & Martial Arts Coach
A veteran paratrooper out of the 82nd Airborne, Coach Zac brings grit, discipline, and battle-tested experience to the corner. With over a decade of boxing coaching and a deep martial arts and wrestling background, he'll push you past your limits and forge you into the fighter you didn't know you could be.

Boxing Coach
A veteran Army drill sergeant who boxed in the armed forces, Coach Rev Hill commands respect the second he steps in the corner. He's spent over a decade sharpening fighters, blending military discipline with the sweet science to turn raw heart into real skill.
